NaNoWriMo has another prompt today: “Meteors and asteroids are all over the news of late, so let’s borrow this situation for our Friday writing prompt. What would happen in your NaNoWriMo novel if an asteroid suddenly struck Earth? How would your characters react?”
The twin characters in my NaNoWriMo novel, Seth and Sarah, are on an adventure in southern Colorado. Things are already pretty weird when they arrive at an off-the-grid location to participate in a scientific study. If a heavenly body struck Earth during their side trip into the mountains, it might be the cause of a series of avalanches that has them freaked out and scrambling for cover.
Sarah and Seth decide to get out of the mountains as quickly as possible before anything else goes wrong, but what if one of them wanted to stay, or they became separated? This prompt might be just what I need for a plot twist to get myself back on track. Anything is possible in the world of fiction, right?
