Portrait of a Magpie

This Yellow-billed Magpie is one of a growing flock that populates a local park in the Sierra  Nevada foothills where we live. It appears to be telling a tale in the image I took last month. There is something almost human in its bold appearance that inspires a folk tale of some sort.

Perhaps this bird is a prince or princess trapped in the body of a bird, waiting for the right moment to be freed from its curse. Will a good deed do the trick, or does this unfortunate creature require intervention from a particular character in order to be free? Whatever the cause of the tragic transformation of human to avian, I am sure that there will be a happy ending to the story.
