Book Preview: An Abundance of Katherines

an abundance of katherinesAn Abundance of Katherines (2006), by John Green, stars Colin Singleton as a young man who falls in love with girls named Katherine, and then gets dumped. He is very consistent; so far he has been dumped by nineteen Katherines. Colin is also a child prodigy, or at least he was. Now he is slipping, but hopes to come up with a formula for falling in love that will predict the outcome of any relationship, based on his many experiences. Colin is certain his accomplishment will put him back into the genius category. This lighthearted tale for young adults features Colin and his best friend Hassan, who take a road trip to small town Tennessee, where they end up staying as the house guests of a factory owner and her daughter Lindsey. The boys are hired to collect the oral histories of the town. Colin bonds with Lindsey, who teaches him how to tell a proper story, and Colin does some growing up. This tale sounds like a treat for any age.
